National Education Management Information System, abbreviated as NEMIS, is an online web portal that automates the entire end-to-end management of education data and related administration functions. 

The primary aim of the NEMIS is to collect, provide and analyze real-time data for better decision-making. Furthermore NEMIS automates the manual processes of administration functions which decrease the wastage of time and resources. 

At present the NEMIS is focused to the Teacher Human Resource Management aspect and it is expected to develop other modules which handle basically all the entities related to education including students, teachers, principals, schools, educational offices at zonal and provincial levels and the Ministry of Education.

This smart book, offered to you by the Educational Publications Department, is the first product of the pilot project related to the production of e-textbooks. 

The content of this smart book, produced for Grade 11 Science subject, is similar to that of the printed textbook. It has been prepared with the aim of providing an opportunity for the students to engage in active learning by making the subject of Science a more practical experience. 

Along with each lesson in this smart book, prepared under an activity-based theme, a series of exercises, an activity and a short note are included. Furthermore, with the aim of providing an opportunity for the students to engage in further studies on the subject facts, information is included for additional knowledge. It is a special feature of this smart book that the students who do the series of exercises can create a profile to do a self-evaluation of each unit. The textbook is included in the smart book as a PDF so that the students could utilize it when necessary. Under the additional learning tools, teacher guides, questions and answers for past examination papers and model question and answer papers are included.

Two days training workshops for Grade 13 Information Communication Technology (G.C.E. Advanced Level ICT subject) were held recently. There will be more training workshops at the computer laboratory, National Institute of Education, Maharagama.

Qualifications  

Applicants must have the following qualifications to apply:

1. Being a person belonging to SLEAS/SLPS/SLTES/ or a Head of a government or semi government educational institution/Head of a Pirivena;
2. Bachelor of Education Degree from a recognized University/Institution; OR University first degree in any other discipline and a professional qualification such as Postgraduate Diploma in Education/Trained Teacher Certificate/National Diploma in Teaching.
3. Minimum of four years of experience in teaching of which at least two years with administrative and supervisory duties;
4. Not following any full time/part time program of study of the National Institute of Education or a full time program of study in any other Institution in the year of admission (2019).
