Age limit raised from 8 to 12 for the Punishment for offences committed by children.

Age limit for the Punishment for offences committed by children

The age limit of 8 years under which no act of a child is considered an offence is to be increased to 12 years shortly by way of an Amendment to the Penal Code.

The Government last Friday gazetted a bill to amend the Chapter 19 of Penal Code to give effect to the above revision of the age limit.

According to the Bill “Nothing is an offence which is done by a child under 12 years of age.

Nothing is an offence which is done by a child above twelve years of age and under fourteen, if the judge is of the opinion that he has not attained sufficient maturity to understand the nature and consequences of his act”.

Teacher transfers over ten years of service

Teacher Transfers over 10 Years of Service

The education ministry has said that 5473 teachers who have been teaching in grade 6 to grade 11, with over 10 years of service in the same school, are to be transferred.

The education ministry said that the transfers will be implemented by the middle of this month.

the teacher transfer programme is being implemented in three phases, its first phase was put in place during the second half of last year.

the ministry said that 2590 AL teachers were transferred to national schools in the first phase.
