Public Hearing on Islandwide Power Failure on 09.02.2025

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (Commission) hereby notifies its decision to hold a Public Hearing to investigate on the island wide power failure occurred on 09th February 2025.

The determination of the Public Hearing will include, but not limited to, findings on Socio Economic Impacts and appropriate recommendations to avoid the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.

The stakeholders and General Public are hereby invited to surrender written submissions, if any, on the impacts, issues, or any information related to the power failure. The Commission may take these submissions into consideration and, if necessary, summon the respective parties to provide oral evidence at the hearing.

This Public Hearing is held under and by virtue of powers vested with the Commission under Section 18 of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act No 35 of 2002 and the Date, Time and Venue will be informed to the Public in due course.

Written submissions should be submitted on or before 19th June 2025 to:

"Public Hearing on the Island Wide Power Failure Occurred on 09th February 2025"

Application for Assist in marking the ballot paper for Disable Person - LG Election 2025

Election Commission has issued a media release on Legal Provisions regarding voters with disability, to be accompanied by a person to assist in marking the ballot paper at the polling station.

Provisions exist in Section 54 (2) of the principal Act, Elections (Special Provisions) Act No. 28 of 2011 for a person who is totally or partially visually handicapped or physically disabled to be accompanied by a person to assist in marking the ballot paper.

The person who accompanies the disabled person should be over 18 years of age and should not be a contesting candidate at the election. He should not be an authorized agent or a polling agent of a political party at the election. In addition he should not be a person subject to any disability.

In order to be accompanied by a person to assist as stated above, a Certificate of Eligibility prescribed in the Tenth Schedule to the Act should be handed over to the officers at the polling station.

Special Transport Facility for Physically Disabled Persons - LG Election 2025

Election Commission has released a media notice on providing Special Transport facility for physically disabled persons to cast votes for upcoming local Government Election 2025.

Closing Date for the Application 29.04.2025

Any person who is unable to travel to the polling station on foot or by a service provided by the Sri Lanka Central Transport Board or by a Regional Transport Board or by Sri Lanka Government Railways or by any public transport, by reason of any physical disability, may apply in writing to the Returning Officer of the District under Section 82G (4)(d) of the Act, by himself or on his behalf by any other person, not being a candidate, to use any vehicle for the purpose of such conveyance.
