Festival Allowance Increased

Cabinet Approval granted for increasing festival allowance for the Government Officers.

Increasing the festival advance provided to government officers.

In terms of the provisions of the Establishments Code on payment of festival advance to government officers, there's a possibility of obtaining rupees 10,000/- as an advance for celebrating festivals of Theipongal, Ramazan, Sinahala and Hindu New Year, Wesak, Deepavali, and Christmas as well as for pilgrimages (Sri Paada pilgrimage and Hajj pilgrimage). Provisions have been given to recover the said advance in 08 or if required earlier without interest. It has been proposed by the Budget 2026 to escalate the said festival advance up to rupees 15,000/ -. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the proposal submitted by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Governments to revise the relevant provisions so that the festival advance can be increased up to rupees 15,000/- and issue circular instructions in the regard.

Cabinet Decisions January 13, 2026

Cabinet Approval for Recruiting 23344 Teachers

Implementation of recommendations of the Committee appointed to review the recruitment process of the public service and management the cadre.

Approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted at their meeting held on 30.12.2024 to appoint an officers' committee headed by the Secretary to the Prime Minister for taking necessary steps on the recruitment quantities that should essentially be done by recognizing the requirements, priorities and time frames by reviewing the recruitment process of the government service. Considering the requests made to that committee to fill the vacancies in the posts in respective ministries as well as the departments and other institutions under those ministries, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the resolution furnished by the Hon. Prime Minister to grant approval to the relevant Ministries and affiliated institutions for making the following appointments recommended by the committee
