Two New Degree Courses - University Entrance 2018/2019

The University Grant Commission will introduce two new degree programs for University entrants  this year, UGC secretary Dr Priyantha Premakumara said.
At the initial stage that two new degree programs named Social works and Geographic information science will be conducted by the Peradeniya University
50 undergraduates will be enrolled in each course. He said 645 more students will be enrolled for Universities for the coming academic year compared with last year. Total of 31 158 students will be admitted for the 2017 2018 academic year

UGC will entertain applications for admission to Sri Lankan Universities from candidates who have satisfied the minimum requirements for University Admission at GCE AL 2018 Examination.

Candidates are informed that it is compulsory to apply for university admission online.

Minimum Requirements
  • at least 3 "s" grades in all three approved subjects in one sitting within a maximum of three attempts
  • Minimum Mark of 30 % for the Common General test

Deposit of 500 at any branch of BOC (0002323287 - Torrington Branch),

The counterfoil of the paying in voucher duly authenticated by the bank with the seal and the signature of an authorized officer should be sent along with the written request for university admission hand book

No 20 ward place colombo 07 by post, giving the name of the applicant, medium , and a self addressed unstamped envelop not less than 37cm X 26cm along with the written request.

An Interim bus fare revision has been decided to be granted by the National Transport Commission with effect from 27th December 2018 in terms of the National Bus Fares Policy in order to compensate the decrease in Fuel Price. Full fare in respect of approved Inter provincial , Normal, semi Luxury, Luxury,Super Luxury services implemented by the Sri Lanka Transport Board and Private Passenger Transport Services and the fare table depicting 350 normal fare stages are given below for the information of bus passengers, owners, crews, authorities, and the general public.

Amendment on Establishment Code (No Pay Leave for study abroad )


Revision of Section 16, Chapter XII of the Establishments Code

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided at its meeting held on 28.08.2018 to revise sub section 16:2 and 16:2:1 as follows and include the new sub sections from 16:2:2 to 16:2:4.

16:2 No pay leave for study abroad can be granted to a Public Officer on the recommendation of the Head of the Department to study a substantive course at a recognised institute.

16:2:1 Extending the probation period of an officer who is on probation, from a period equal to the period of study leave abroad.

16:2:2 Granting leave with no pay to the spouse subject to sub sections 16:1:9 and 16:1:10 in case where the spouse of the officer, who is studying abroad is also serving in the Public Service.

16:2:3 An officer who obtains study leave under this should complete a period which is determined by the Head of the Department out of the compulsory period of service prescribed under sub section 16:15 within the same department from which the recommendation for leave is made. However, this condition should not be made applicable to reject a request made for releasing such officer to another service in the Public Service.

16:2:4 All the other conditions stipulated in Section 16 in respect of granting no pay leave for study abroad shall also be applied when granting leave under sub section 16:2.

OL Answer Script Evaluation in two Stages


Evaluation process of answer scripts will be conducted in two stages.

First Stage will be commence on December 23 and continue till January 1 at 123 evaluation centers at government schools countrywide.

The Second stage of the answer script evaluation will commence From January 8 to January 17 at six centers.

Nearly 700 000 candidates appeared for the OL examination countrywide. Police Headquarters confirmed that the police had arrested five suspects for committing misdeeds,malpractices and fraud at the examination centers while answering question papers.

The Results of these suspects would be cancelled and not to be issued. They would be not allowed to sit for public examinations for five years.
