National Festival of Foreign Languages 2026 – Circular & Competition Guidelines



The Ministry of Education has issued the official circular for the National Festival of Foreign Languages – 2026 under the theme “One World Many Voices.”

The competitions will be conducted for students studying Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, German and Hindi in Grades 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Events include Dictation, Creative Writing and Oratory (Impromptu Speech).

Competitions will be held at Provincial Level (1st May – 31st July) and National Level (15th September – 25th November).

Only selected winners from the provincial level will qualify for the national competition.

Detailed guidelines on marking schemes, judging criteria, eligibility and event structure are provided in the circular.

Schools are instructed to follow the official instructions strictly when organizing the competitions.

Ministry of Education English Language and Drama Competitions 2026 official circular Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Education has issued the official circular for the National Level English Language and Drama Competitions – 2026

Circular Number 10/2025 dated 28.02.2025 on the same subject is cancelled hereby and this new circular will be effective from 15.02.2026.

These competitions will be conducted at school, zonal, provincial and national levels to enhance students’ English language skills and creativity.

The events include Handwriting, Dictation, Creative Writing, Recitation, Oratory (Prepared & Impromptu), Storytelling and Drama for Grades 6–13.

The circular outlines competition formats, judging criteria, marking schemes, time allocations and eligibility requirements. School-level competitions must be conducted systematically under the supervision of the Principal to ensure fairness and transparency.

Provincial and national-level participation will be based on results from lower levels. Detailed instructions for drama categories, poetry recitation, speech delivery and evaluation criteria are included in the annexures.

Schools are advised to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education.
